Six Apart acquires Pownce and shuts it down

Six Apart, the company behind various blogging softwares like Typepad, Movable Type and Vox has acquired the microblogging startup Pownce for an undisclosed amount and according to a blog post on Pownce, they are also closing down the website by Dec 15th ie 2 weeks from now.

Pownce was probably the second best micro-blogging service around after Twitter, and its disappearance will definitely help in building Twitter’s supremacy.

Pownce has now provided its users with a export feature, wherein the users can export all their messages and import them to other blogging services such as Wordpress, Vox, TypePad, or Blogger.

Six Apart, in their official announcement has also added that it is providing a free TypePad account for all the Pro Account Users of Pownce for a year.

So All you Pownce Users, hurry up and backup your messages via the Export feature.

Update:  Pownce has now shut shop. Long Live Pownce.
