The previous weekend (Feb 28, 2009), I had been to the Google Searchmasters Conference held at their Bangalore office along with around 100-200 webmasters, SEO’s and bloggers from many parts of the India.
The whole event was conducted in order to understand the various Google services and tools of which the webmasters can take advantage of, in order to make their website more better both for humans and bots so that it ranks high in search engine results.
The event saw the talks of many Googlers regarding best practices in SEO and website designs,Google webmasters, Google Analytics, Tips for building good mobile sites and also on how to use Google Custom search engine effectively.
Adam Lasnik’s session was the highlight of the day. He explained many of the good practices followed in SEO, Website design like having good links and bad links etc. He also clarified a lot of doubts, the webmasters had, viz Catching duplicate content, Having a good sitemap in both xml and HTML format etc etc.
He also kicked off a new session called "Site Clinic" wherein he analysed 2 websites (picked up by a draw of lots) and gave them tips as to where they can improve and also what they have done the best.
Koti Ivaturi told the crowd about how the webmasters can make the best use of Google Webmasters Forum and the Moderator tool by asking their queries with the community, and get them answered either by the people in the community or the Google representatives themselves.
Rajat Mukherjee then explained the significance and power of Google Custom Search Engine and how the webmasters can use it to give the visitor’s a better site experience and make them stay for longer on the site.
Ankit Gupta and Deepak Kumar also gave pretty good sessions on how to build good mobile sites and effective usage of Google Analytics respectively.
At the end, the stage was thrown open to questions from audience to all the presenters and all the good questions were rewarded with Google Goodies.
There was a diverse set of people who attended it, ranging from Webmasters to Bloggers to SEO’s.
And also thanks to this event, I was also able to meet a lot of interesting people like Amit Agarwal, Mani Karthik, Samrat, Nishan, Varun Krishnan and many others.
Looking forward to many such events from Google.
