Sbot Gets Bing Search and adds Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger Support

About a few month back, we had told you about an amazing bot called as Sbot, through which you could search the entire web via IM.

Well now, the Sbot has been recently updated. It has incorporated Bing search and added support for Yahoo! Messenger and Live Messenger as well.

To perform Bing Search on IM, send “bSearchQuery” and in a short while, you will get the top 10 Bing search results at that time.

Using Sbot onÂ Yahoo! Messenger/ MSN Live Messenger is very similar to using it on Gtalk, you just have to add searchbot@ymail.com andÂ searchbot@live.com respectively as your buddies to use Sbot.

Wolfram Alpha – A Highly Impressive Scientific Computation Engine

Finally, after a long wait, the much hyped “Wolfram Alpha” went live a few days back.

And I must say, I am very impressed with the data and the visualizations this search engine churns out.

Though many people say that it is a Google Killer, I somehow would want to differ on that. This is not like Google which gives you only contextual best results but it is bit more on the advanced side and give you some amazing results for almost any query you throw at it, in a visual format.

For Example,

If you give a date, say June 23, 1988, it churns out the day, the time difference from today (in years, weeks, months, days respectively), its day number in 1988, any notable event that happened that day and even the daylight information, and the phase of the moon.

If you give a city name, say Bangalore, it gives you the city population, location, Current local time, Current Weather there and the approximate elevation from the sea.

If you give any calculation like 12.9567% of 765, it give you back the exact result as 99.119

If you give it any website name, like Techieblues.com, then it gives you the host name, location, daily page views, daily visitors, Webpage information, HTML element hierarchy of the domain.

Now here come the most killer part, just give any complex trigonometric expression, like x^2 sin(x)/(Cos(x) Tan(x^2))”>x^2 sin(x)/(Cos(x) Tan(x^2)), and see the answer in a jiffy. It not only gives you the result but also its graphs, inequality plots, alternate forms, series expansion and also its derivatives. Can Google Do that?

At times though, due to the sudden rush of traffic and also the site is pretty much in Alpha state, it goes down once in while.

Though Wolfram Alpha might not be much useful for the normal internet user, this is a definite treasure for all the researchers, bloggers, students etc.

Search the Web in IM using Sbot

Sbot is a bot which lets you search the web using various search engines such as Google / Yahoo / Twitter through IM.

How to do it?

Just add sbot@bot.im to Google Talk/GTalk as your buddy and you can start using it.

Now when you want to search the web,

Just type in “g Search Item” for a Google Search of that particular query.

Similarly, send “y Search Item” for searching in Yahoo and finally use “t Search Item” for Twitter Search of that particular query.

The bot will then immediately reply you with the top 10 results of that query.

This IM bot has been built byÂ @hnprashanth and @the100rabh and was an outcome of the second tech night we had yesterday. So if you have any suggestions or comments, do let them know at.

Note: This bot currently supports only Google Talk Desktop Client and Gmail Chat.

Update: This bot now supports all the major IM Programs like Yahoo! Messenger and Windows Live Messenger and also Bing Search has now been added to the bot.

Have you always wondered how much your website costs? Then check out Stimator.

All you have to do is go to Stimator.com and enter your domain name in the form.

It takes into account a lot of factors like backlinks, traffic levels, Web Recognition, Social and Inlinking scores, and linking data etc. and finally gives a fairly accurate value.

It also generates a report which gives you a blowup of scores obtained by the website in each parameter as mentioned above.

They have also explained all the parameters used in their About Page.

Find out your inactive friends on twitter with Twitoria

Twitoria is a web based app through which you can know which of your twitter friends has become inactive so that you can unfollow them. Why follow them if they no longer tweet? Ain’t it?

The web app is very simple. Just go to Twitoria.com, type your twitter handle and select the time period of inactivity you want. After some time, you will get a list of friends who have become inactive.

Through this web app I came to know that many of my initial followees whom I was following had become quite inactive or completely abandoned Twitter.

Tweet Wheel: Watch your twitter contacts in a circular manner

Tweet Wheel is a web-based visualization tool that shows your twitter contacts in a circular manner. It also shows how your contacts are connected with each other.

All you have to do is just go to Tweet Wheel. Enter your Twitter username and let Tweet Wheel do the rest of the work. After some time you will end up with a circle in which all your contacts and subsequently their contacts are presented in a circular manner.

But this process does take some time, so you need to be patient if you have a lot of contacts. Finally you get a circular picture showing all of your contactsÂ with lots ofÂ lines showing which of your contacts follow one another on Twitter.

Point to be noted here that, since it involves a large number of contacts, the picture might become unreadable to the human eye but you can always scroll over any user name to get a close up look at their connections.

The process is simple. Just go to Say Tweet. Upload a picture of your choice. Click on the image where you want to put the speech bubble and enter your twitter ID and voila, you get your own personalized Twitter Canvas. Just make sure that the speech bubble does not interfere with the image. The created image is dynamic in nature i.e. the canvas will always contain the latest tweet that you have posted.

UserNameCheck.com is a cool website where you can check whether your desired name is available for registration or is it already in use in a range of social networking sites, right from Blogger.com, Digg, Friendfeed, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm etc

The purpose of the website reads:

“This site is a quick and dirty solution to a question that I often lay awake at night worrying about. Do I have my username registered across every site that I should? What if the next internet humiliation meme just happens to share the username I’ve been using for years, and suddenly people are emailing me asking “hey, is this you ???”. The site is simple. I have a stack of web app urls, the application pings the site using the username you want to check, if it returns a “no user name” error we return that. The site uses Dojo as it does all the checks using Ajax (each check takes a couple of seconds so using Ajax you don’t have to sit and wait 3 minutes for the page to load).”

Make Money with your Twitter Profile

Till now people used to make money using their blogs by using various monetizing networks but there were no monetizing networks which had supported the microblogging platform.
That is where now TwittAd steps in. TwittAd is a special ad network only for twitter, that allows people to put ads on their Twitter profiles and earn money out of it.
If you have a profile with lots of followers then you can use this websiteÂ to monetize it.
What TwittAd actually does is that it provides a common platform for both Twitter users and Advertisers to meet for their product placement & website promotion on the Twitter user’s profile.
First, you will have to sign up an account with them. After signup, you will be given instructions as to how to insert ads in your profile. Payments are done through Paypal and the threshold limit i.e. minimum amount to be earned is $20.
Personally speaking, I feel it is a very innovative idea but will it work is the million dollar question as very few twitterers go to different profiles just to read other tweets. But still worth try. What say?
