Google releases a Mobile application for Nokia S60 Phones

Google Mobile Team has launched a mobile application for Nokia S60 devices. This mobile application is designed to make searching for content on the web, very easy for the mobile users.

You can now launch the application directly from the home screen with a quick key, thus making Search, Google Maps, Gmail, and other Google mobile services very quick and very easy to use.

Google Mobile App now also has Built-in Location Awareness i.e. if you want search results pertaining to the location you are in presently, you just have to use the "My Location" Feature and you will get localized search results that relate to the location where you are. Also you can enable/disable this feature any time using the Settings menu of the application.

Google Mobile App also stores your search history, which makes it very easy to repeat the searches you have done before. And while typing, it also offers suggestions, based on what you have entered before, to get the desired results as soon as possible.

How to Download This Application

Just head over to http://m.google.com using your mobile browser and download the mobile application or Alternatively, you can just head over to Google Mobile Website to download the application.

10 Mobile Sites Worth Visiting

From past few months, due to a long journey to and fro to my company (If you want to know, its around 4hrs to be precise) my browsing via mobile has increased exponentially. Therefore to pass time I started unraveling some of the amazing sites that the mobile web had. Here are some of the sites seriously worth a visit if you have a GPRS/Edge/3G enabled phone.

1. Twitter

Being a huge twitter addict the first thing I checked was the Twitter mobile site. The site is pretty good and very addictive. Mobile Web is the top source of my tweets now . There are also many other sites through which you can tweet via mobile now, (A Separate Detailed Post is coming on that shortly)

2. Facebook Mobile

It is a complete striped out version of the Facebook but you can still see your news feed, friend requests, event invitations, update your status and almost everything that you can on the desktop site (Exception being Facebook Chat). iPhone can hop in to the iPhone version of Facebook

3. Delicious Bookmarks

Here you can browse your Delicious bookmarks, tags, and your inbox. You can also browse the currently popular and recent bookmarks of the Delicious network.

4. Google

It is a one stop shop for all your Google products like Gmail, Google Reader, Google Maps, iGoogle, Blogger etc. Though all of the above have their own dedicated mobile sites. I somehow prefer this site over the others. The only thing missing in this site is Google Talk which doesn’t have a dedicated mobile site as well.

5. Flickr

Flickr recently revamped their mobile site after they saw that lots of people are using their mobile devices to click and upload pictures on the go. Now you can also comment and favorite photos from your mobile. iPhone and Google G1 users can also get to watch videos of upto 90 seconds on their phones.

6. NDTV / CNN IBN / The Times of India

Realising the potential of mobile internet users, many news agencies have now started dedicated mobile sites for people to read the top stories on the go.

7. Brightkite

I use Brightkite quite often. So I was also interested to know how its mobile site is and I was quite surprised to see that Brightkite mobile site has a lot of features. You can check in at a place, post notes and photos, see the people near you, check your messages etc etc. In short, it provides all the features that the main site provides in a striped down version.

8. m.ebuddy.com

This site is like a heaven for all the chatting addicts. This site currently supports MSN, AIM, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk, My Space and Facebook Chat.

9. Cricinfo MobiCast

We all are cricket fans. Isn’t it?

Understanding this, Cricinfo has a dedicated MobiCast on which they list the scorecards of all the live matches happening right now along with ball by ball Commentary.

10. Zapak Games

If you are a gaming addict and love Zapak’s games, then you would simply love the Zapak’s mobile site. Here you can play single player and multi player games, download games from a list of around 900+ games etc.

This list is definitely incomplete with lots and lots of good sites present on the wide world of mobile web.

So, you interested to prebook this gorgeous phone? Then just go to Nokia’s Pre Registration page and add your name and number. A Nokia Priority Dealer will get in touch with you within 24hours.

You then need to go to your nearest Nokia Priority Center and pay Rs 2000 as an advance and the remaining money when your phone arrives and also as an introductory offer, they are offering a bluetooth headset worth 5000 rupees, free of cost.

Mozilla Fennec Alpha Release Out

Mozilla Fennec is out with an alpha version now. This first alpha release is available only for the Maemo software platforms that runs on the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets. So if you have Nokia N810, install Fennec now. If you do not have Nokia N810 but still want to experience Fennec, don’t worry, you can try it on your PC also.

Click here for Windows version, Linux version and Mac OSX version.

Though this is an early developer release of the mobile version of Firefox, for testing purposes only.

Performance: I just loved the Fennec till the time I ran it. The movement was very smooth. Tabs feature is superb. History Page is cool. Eagerly awaiting for it to release publicly.

People at Mozilla are busy developing the mobile version of Firefox titled "Mozilla Fennec". Wondering how it looks. The initial images of the mobile browser are coming out on the internet courtesy Brad Lassey, a mozilla Developer. Here are some screenshots of the Fennec running on a mobile device.

It looks like to be a total knock out, though the looks are very similar to Safari on the iPhone/iPod Touch.

It will be very interesting to see how Mozilla Fennec matches up against the already established mobile browsers like Opera Mini, Mobile Safari, Skyfire etc.

What do you think? Will it be able to match up with the bigwigs at Mobile Browsing like Opera Mini etc.

Nokia Tube – A First Hand Review

Just yesterday I happened to lay my hands on the unreleased Nokia 5800 during a outing with my friends.

So here is the first hand account about the phone:

Form Factor: It is a big 3.2 inches touchscreen which can offer resolutions upto 640*360. At the bottom, it has three buttons on the front panel – Talk, Main Menu and End. The phone is also very easy on the weight and great to hold it. A good 3.2 mega pixel camera with autofocus.

Interface: The Tube is built on the 5th version of Symbian OS. The OS was very responsive and pretty good for a Nokia phone. The touch screen interface is pretty good but a tad bit slower than its rival iPhone.

Usability: As mentioned above, the touch screen is a bit on the slower side than its counterparts. But it is more than compensated by the brilliant handwriting recognition while typing messages. All the text I wrote using the stylus got converted perfectly in a single attempt. If handwriting recognition is not your type, then you can use the digital QWERTY keyboard built within the phone.

Music and Entertainment: It has a 3.2 megapixel Camera with autofocus and is able to record and playback video recordings.

Tube also features a ‘Media Bar’ drop-down menu for easy access to your favorite media applications such as music, videos, and photos etc.

“Comes with music” service is bundled with Nokia 5800 which provides free unlimited song downloads for one whole year.

Connectivity: It supports Quad-band GSM connectivity with GPRS and EDGE, HSDPA connectivity, internal GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Price: The price would be supposedly around Rs.18,000 which is a far cry from the highly overpriced iPhone.

Google SMS Channels kicks off

Google India has started a new product called Google SMS Channels that lets you to subscribe to news alerts, jokes, stocks etc via SMS messages.

You can also create a channel based on your site’s RSS Feed and open it for subscribers. If you are based in India and would like to subscribe to this site on your mobile phone via SMS, please join the Techie Blues SMS channel.

Though there are several established sites already in this arena (like My Today and SMS Gupshup), it is Google’s first initiative towards mobile updates. Another important aspect is that Google SMS is free for all ( both publishers and subscribers) and you can also create any number of channels you want on Google SMS.

You also have option to create private channels and stay in touch with your friends and relatives. To send an SMS, you can either publish via Mobile (Normal SMS Charges Apply) or through the web (Completely Free).

You can also create and send multi lingual SMS through the web (It currently supports creating messages in English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada).

The only possible glitch (if we say so) is that it is available only for Indian Numbers and is not applicable for International numbers.

Sony’s Bio Degradable Concept Phone

Last Week, Sony Ericsson announced their new concept phone called “Green Heart” , that has been made on the concept of making a phone environmentally sustainable throughout its life span. The GreenHeart phone will have bio-plastic housings, keypads of recycled plastic , a “Zero Charger” with 3.5mW standby power and e-manuals instead of the normal printed manuals along with environment friendly packaging. Sony is now trying to develop new features and design to this phone with the help of their partners.

I personally loved this idea of bio degradable phone and sincerely hope that this concept becomes a reality as soon as possible.
