iGoogle Version 2 released, "Canvas" View Added

Author: Vikas SN | Files under Internet

Google has now officially released the new and improved version of iGoogle. A new canvas view has been incorporated in the main page which enables you to view your gadgets in the full screen view as well. But not all gadgets support this canvas view as yet. Some of the best Gadgets which support are :

  • News - New gadgets from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post give me full-page views of what’s new in the world. Nice.
  • Games - The Sudoku gadget lets me play thousands of full-page Sudoku puzzles without squinting at 6-point type. The GoComics gadget gives me my fix of Garfield and Doonesbury and lets me choose from all of their other comics. I’ve also spent many coffee breaks browsing through videos from YouTube and CurrentTV.
  • Entertainment - I’ve configured the TV Guide gadget to my zip code and just used it today to figure out when the newest episode of The Office is playing. Flixster’s movies gadget lets me access trailers, ratings, and theater information for any movie. I also use the iLike gadget to browse news, concerts, and free MP3s from my favorite musicians.
  • Google stuff - The new Gmail gadget lets me read my full email and perform simple actions like send or reply to emails without leaving iGoogle. Last but not least, a gadget that I authored and use every day is for Google Finance, which provides full-screen finance charts and news of the stocks in my portfolio.

Check out the full list of Gadgets which support Canvas view.

Also the tabs have been replaced from its original position at the top to its new location at the left.

Another important update is that Google Reader has also added their own iGoogle Gadget which looks very similar to the original Google Reader.

    How can I move the tabs back to the top of the screen? They were completely out of the way there… by moving them to the left, you have totally messed up the Igoogle page I have used as my homepage for several years now. I also really don’t need an inch and a half of blank space on the left of my screen.

    If I can’t fix this, I am changing homepages. This didn’t accomplish anything other than mess things up and break several of my gadgets.

    @Akin
    I don’t think you can change back the tabs to top. If you are possible to do it, let me know, but you can access the old iGoogle at http://www.google.co.in/ig if you want or you can always customize your igoogle theme and change the tabs to the top I guess. Not too sure though.

    I had v2 for about a half hour. All my gadgets were gone from every tab, so I set it up again. With some of the new gadgets included. Then v2 disappeared after I checked my settings, everything was back to v1 and all the v2 gadgets are broke.
