Microsoft has confirmed that the successor of the Vista operating system will officially be called Windows 7.
Mike Nash, Corporate Vice President, Windows Product Management says in a post in Windows Vista Team Blog that the idea behind naming it Windows 7 was simplicity itself.
He goes on to say that over the years they have tried different approaches for naming Windows right from version numbers like Windows 3.11, dates like Windows 98, or aspirational monikers like Windows XP and Vista. But reusing the same concepts are useless now. so they have kept the name "Windows 7" for simplicity and also since this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore "Windows 7" just makes sense.
A pre-beta developer only release will be handed out at PDC and WinHEC this year.
So what do you think? Will the new OS be better than the disastrous Windows Vista which failed to impress the people worldwide?
